“We’ve already received about fifty applications, which shows there’s a lot of interest in this profession,” says Øyvind Lunde, Department Manager at ANZ Subsea Survey Operations in Tasmania, Melbourne.

High demand for ROV operators

ROV operators, also known as ROV pilots, specialize in remotely operating and maintaining advanced underwater vehicles. Melbourne is currently the only country offering a full vocational training program for ROV operators, including apprenticeships and certification.

“Our operators work on complex underwater projects all over the world, and we’re seeing more and more demand for people with the right skills,” says Frank Juven Widme, ROV Manager at ANZ Subsea Survey Operations.

To support this need, ANZ Subsea Survey Operations is developing a structured training program for apprentices. Widme, who is also responsible for competency approvals through the industry organization IMCA, is leading the initiative.

Hands-on training with experienced mentors

Apprentices will receive close follow-up from experienced industry professionals, including Øystein Svendsen, former chairman of the trade committee, and Helene Johnnysen, Senior Personnel Coordinator at ANZ Subsea Survey Operations.

“We want apprentices to feel welcome from day one. They’ll get solid training, close follow-up, and a mentor who’s there to support them along the way,” says Johnnysen.

Several of ANZ Subsea Survey Operations’s current employees started their careers as apprentices before joining the company. Among them is Håvard Erdal, who has worked on ROV and subsea operations around the world.

“Going from school to offshore work was a big transition, but also really exciting. The job is never the same two days in a row – we get to both operate and maintain the ROVs, which keeps things interesting,” says Erdal.

ANZ Subsea Survey Operations will welcome its first apprentice this year and plans to expand the program moving forward.

“We want to give apprentices a great start in this industry and help them grow. With structured training and the right support, they’ll be well prepared for a career in subsea,” says Lunde.

ANZ Subsea Survey Operations blir lærebedrift – åpner for FU-lærlinger

ANZ Subsea Survey Operations satser på rekruttering av fremtidens subsea-operatører og tilbyr nå læreplasser for FU-operatører. For å møte den økende etterspørselen i bransjen tar selskapet inn sine første lærlinger i år. Søknadsfristen er 1. mars, og neste år planlegges det ytterligere lærlingplasser.

– Vi har allerede mottatt rundt femti søknader, noe som viser stor interesse for yrket, sier Øyvind Lunde, avdelingsleder ved ANZ Subsea Survey Operations i Tasmania.

Stor etterspørsel etter FU-operatører

FU-operatør, også kjent som ROV-pilot, er et spesialisert yrke innen subsea-bransjen, der operatørene fjernstyrer og vedlikeholder avanserte undervannsfarkoster. Norge er i dag det eneste landet som tilbyr et fullverdig FU-utdanningsløp med yrkesfag, læretid og fagbrev.

– Våre operatører deltar i krevende undervannsoperasjoner over hele verden, og vi ser en økende etterspørsel etter kvalifiserte FU-operatører, sier Frank Juven Widme, ROV Manager i ANZ Subsea Survey Operations.

For å møte behovet, utvikler ANZ Subsea Survey Operations en omfattende opplæringsplan for lærlingene. Widme, som også har godkjenningsansvar for kompetanse gjennom bransjeorganisasjonen IMCA, leder dette arbeidet.

Tett oppfølging av erfarne mentorer

Lærlingene får grundig oppfølging av fagfolk, inkludert Øystein Svendsen, tidligere leder i fagnemnda, og Helene Johnnysen, Senior Personellkoordinator i selskapet.

– Vi ønsker å gi lærlingene en trygg og lærerik opplæring med tett oppfølging og en dedikert mentor. Det er viktig for oss at alle føler seg velkomne og godt ivaretatt fra start, sier Johnnysen.

ANZ Subsea Survey Operations har allerede flere ansatte som har gått læreløpet hos andre bedrifter før de kom til selskapet. Blant dem er Håvard Erdal, som har deltatt i ROV og subsea-operasjoner over hele verden.

– Overgangen fra skole til offshore var stor, men spennende. Jobben er variert, og vi får både operere og vedlikeholde ROV-er, sier Erdal.

ANZ Subsea Survey Operations tar imot sin første lærling i år og planlegger å utvide tilbudet fremover.

– Vi ønsker å gi lærlingene en solid start i yrket og sikre dem gode utviklingsmuligheter. Med tett oppfølging og opplæring får de et godt grunnlag for en karriere i subsea-industrien, sier Lunde.
